Why? Why am I in awe when God does what He does? He is so good and His timing is always perfect.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; Isaiah 40:31a
There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven— Ecclesiastes 3:1
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:14
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
A couple of weeks ago I had scheduled an appointment with the gentleman who had installed our security and central vacuum to our home. We spoke, I opened my calendar, confirmed the appointment time, and wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget. Monday at 9:00am is what I had in my calendar.
Finally, around 9:50 Monday morning, I texted him wondering what time he would be arriving. He apologized and mentioned that he had me down for Tuesday, and would be here at 8:30 that morning. Of course, I sighed and shook my head thinking of the things “I” could have been getting done since we had just returned that weekend from a long vacation, but God…
You see, on Monday evening…wait, let’s jump back a few more hours…In the latest Motivational Monday video, I had mentioned how I had many thoughts going through my head, and that one of those thoughts dealt with my children. I’ve often said that parenting isn’t for sissies and that the stage mine and Tim’s kiddos are in (adulthood) are the most “down on my knees praying” season so far. Why? Because the choices they make now carry serious consequences. When they were young they were more apt to listening and obeying, now I sometimes wonder if the “listen to your parents ear tube” is even circuited to the brain. Faith. Complete faith kicks in.
Well, Monday evening I wasn’t able to sleep for the longest time. It could have been the reestablishing myself to a different time zone, but I know my heart was heavy for one of my children particularly. I prayed, tossed and turned, got up to watch the television, and prayed some more. That 8:30 in the morning appointment was approaching, and I had to rest my eyes.
When my security friend was here, we got into our usual conversations about family, work, and God. I mentioned how sometimes all we can do is simply pray. He wholeheartedly agreed, and shared some personal experiences with me. His words confirmed what I already knew. They solidified the whispering from God to my heart.
Although our meeting didn’t happen at my appointed time, it occurred at the proper time. God knew when I needed to hear the words from Jimmy. Thank you!
My strength is renewed, and mind is at ease. God’s timing is perfect. Just like God has this thing called life under control, He has mine and Tim’s children in the palm of His hand, much like He had us at their age.
Parents, pray. Be godly examples, share sweetly how God is working in your life, and pray some more. Oh, and try not to do what I know I have a tendency to do by praying, giving it to God, and taking it back to control yourself…lay it down at his feet and have faith. God’s got this. Just like the above photo was a great family ATV adventure, life is an adventure…hang on…hang on to Jesus.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
