My daughter has this phrase that she has said for years! The situation can be mundane or pressing for her saying the phrase. Recently, Holly and I went on a girls trip together. We got into an eye-opening conversation and discovered the root of her famous phrase. After having a good chat and bringing the Christian point of view into it all, she decided to get a tattoo with a new revelation phrase on her finger. I haphazardly commented how it’s like when someone ties a string around their finger as a reminder. Then, that led to stating, “You should just get a string tied in a bow around your finger as a reminder.”
Well…that was all it took. She did it! Now the tied-tatt is Holly’s new favorite marking. When Holly looks at her right index finger, she is reminded that her once “I don’t care” phrase is now “I DO CARE.”
As a Christian we are to emulate Jesus Christ. Caring was right up there at the top of list of characteristics which define The Man. In Matthew 6:25-34 we are reminded (like Holly’s tattoo) God cares, so…we should too.
So I tell you, don’t worry about the things you need to live—what you will eat, drink, or wear. Life is more important than food, and the body is more important than what you put on it. Look at the birds. They don’t plant, harvest, or save food in barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. Don’t you know you are worth much more than they are? You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it. “And why do you worry about clothes? Look at the wildflowers in the field. See how they grow. They don’t work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that even Solomon, the great and rich king, was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. If God makes what grows in the field so beautiful, what do you think he will do for you? It’s just grass—one day it’s alive, and the next day someone throws it into a fire. But God cares enough to make it beautiful. Surely he will do much more for you. Your faith is so small! “Don’t worry and say, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ That’s what those people who don’t know God are always thinking about. Don’t worry, because your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow will have its own worries.
Dont’ worry? Don’t care? Not characteristics of our Heavenly Daddy. You know…The One we are it imitate.
Let’s add another characteristic…in John 13:34-35 read where Jesus said, “I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other just as I loved you. All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.”
Love.
God doesn’t desire for you to worry, yet to care and love. When you love, you demonstrate that you care.
I’ve found in life that if you love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, 1) you desire Him 2) you want to follow His ways, and 3) that you DO CARE for and love others.
Give all your worries to Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
I’m currently participating in a bible study by Jennifer Rothschild on Psalm 23. This past week she called attention to the word “for” in 1 Peter 5:7. God not only cares about you yet FOR you. When you look up the preposition “for” in the dictionary, you discover that it means with purpose, and intended goal, and desire.
My friend, God desires you! He desires you to love others and care for them…much like He loves and cares for you.
I want to encourage you to “I do care”, like Holly now reminds herself, yet don’t just remind yourself yet demonstrate your care to and for others.
Live, love, and CARE out loud.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
