This morning I was briefly watching the local news. On Tampa Bay’s Fox 13, Dr. Jo is their Health Reporter. What Dr. Jo was informing us about, regarding a new study being done with COVIS-19 patients and those with respiratory issues, was interesting. She told of the drastic changes to one’s health when they lay in the prone position for a period of time. When patients were placed in the prone position, their lungs were expanded and their overall breathing improved.
My first thought was how my babies used to sleep so much better when they were placed on their tummy. Then, the more she spoke, the more my mind went to praying in the prone position.
I know, for me personally, when my heart is heavy with prayer needs, I feel closer to God when I’m either on my knees or…really, flat on my face before Him.
I’m not sure what it is about lying prostrate, but the feeling that washes over me during praying is powerful. God’s presence is hovering over me like no other.
Dr. Jo’s explanations led me to believe that we ALL, not just COVID-19 and respiratory patients, need to be in the prone position during this time. God just may be calling us to humble ourselves, fall to our faces, and call out to Him.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Listen, Abram was 99 years young when the Lord appeared to Him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.” Andy what was Abram’s response:
Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, Genesis 17:3 (emphasis mine)
Abram, who later became Abraham, was a faithful follower of Christ. Will you?
In Numbers 20, Moses’s older sister, Miriam, had passed away. The Israelites were again whining and complaining (even after miracle after miracle was performed by God) about life. Then…
Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the tent of meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them. Numbers 20:6 (emphasis mine)
Moses and Aaron were on their faces in the presence of God. Great things happened…again.
Great things happen when we pray, y’all.
In Revelation, John describes how the angels were positioned when worshipping the Lord and giving Him thanks and honor:
All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, Revelation 7:11 (emphasis mine)
There is a sense of reverence when we are in the prone position.
Matthew tells us how the wise men were filled with joy when they entered into the house to see Jesus for the first time.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11 (emphasis mine)
Oh, friend, will you join me in humbly praying to God for a cure, for our economy, for our government, for our nation, for our families, and for our truckers, first responders, and all who are on the frontlines during this season of COVID-19? Pray for our hearts to be changed for God and to live joyfully for Him.
Now, get busy opening up your lungs and breathe in some Jesus.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
