Are you so focused at times on the bad that you miss the good that is to come or is in front of you?

This is exactly what happened with the disciples in Luke 18:31-34:

Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, “Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true. He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon. They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.” But they didn’t understand any of this. The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.

In the study notes of my bible, the commentary reads, “The disciples didn’t understand Jesus, apparently because they were focusing on what he had said about his death and were ignoring what he had said about his resurrection.” When I read this, it made me think about how many times we focus on the bad around us and not see the hope, the glory, the goodness of what is to come or what may be right in front of us.

Friend, I would like to encourage you to focus on the significance of God’s word, His Son, the hope that he brings, and what is to come. Yes, troubles and trials will come in life yet hold on to the hope that is to come. He does bring beauty from ashes.

Blessings to you and yours,

Stephanie
