I love my daughter!

Just don’t lie to me!
Can I please vent for a moment?  I usually don’t, but there is a lesson to be learned here.
We all make mistakes.  I know that.  I make them every day.  But when you bluntly lie to me, that hurts.
Simple fact, “they” don’t make shorts like they used to.  My daughter has long legs and sometimes even normal shorts look too short.  Well, she wore a pair of shorts to school last Friday that we debated about her wearing, but she went ahead and did so without taking a pair of jeans to change into.  We’ve seen worse things worn at high school and nothing was done to our knowledge, but it’s the first couple of weeks of school, so of course teachers/admin will be cracking down on the rules.
When I came home from school (work) I noticed Holly had a pair of jeans with her, but her shorts wear on her body. One of my “other sons” said, “Holly, you got dress code?”  I noticed she quickly looked my way and sheepishly said “No”.  That should have been my first clue, but why would she lie about it.  I knew that the shorts were debatable.  I proceeded to ask her the same question, and she again denied it.
Well, this afternoon, she confessed, thanks from the persuasion from her grandparents.  She said, “Grandmama and Granddaddy said I should tell you that I got dress code on Friday.  I didn’t call you or dad because you were working.”  Seriously?  Your conscious didn’t tell you to, you had to have someone else remind you to tell the truth?  Ugh!  (Thanks, Gma and Gdaddy for helping her see the light.)
If Holly would have just been honest in the first place, lesson learned on the shorts, we’re done with it, and we move on.  But to lie….. what did that get her?  Trust impaired and electronics taken away.
Again, yes we all make mistakes.  I do appreciate her finally telling me the truth.  She did.  Just next time, tell me the truth in the first place.
We all have done this.  Whether it was a little lie or a big lie, a lie is a lie.  God commanded us not to do it.  So let’s all work on being more honest.  LBH (Let’s Be Honest) is an abbreviation the kids post on Facebook, and then proceeds to tell someone something good about another person.  Let’s put those initials on the forefront of our mind. LBH.
Now that I’ve “vented”:  I’m over it. All is forgiven.  It’s time to move on. (But the consequences are still in place.)
Holly, if you read this…..I LOVE YOU!! That will never change. I forgive you!  I’ll probably need you to forgive me for something soon.
Blessings to all.
(I shared this with Holly and she approves. 🙂  )
