This past weekend I made something I haven’t made in a while.  It was a homemade red velvet cake.  Mmmmmm.  It tasted good the day of, but the next day, after being cooled in the refrigerator all night, and letting the cream cheese, butter, and sugar to all blend together overnight, it was heavenly.  I took the top off the cake plate to cut Tim a piece of cake, and do you know what happened?  That cake called my name and said, “Stephanie, I’m yours.” That cake enticed me to eat it, and I couldn’t resist.  Yep.  It’s all gone. And boy oh boy was it scrumptious!
Have you ever been enticed to do something? Maybe not as silly as having a cake talk to you, but really persuaded to do something that you know is wrong.  I have.  There were moments when I gave in, and times when I stood strong and was able to resist.
1 John 2:26-27 says, “I’ve written to warn you about those who are trying to deceive you. But they’re no match for what is embedded deeply within you—Christ’s anointing, no less! You don’t need any of their so-called teaching. Christ’s anointing teaches you the truth on everything you need to know about yourself and him, uncontaminated by a single lie. Live deeply in what you were taught.”
We are easily inundated with things and people who are trying to lead us in the wrong direction. But, if you are a Christian, you have something special about you that can and will protect you.  The Holy Spirit.
Think about those times when you were being enticed to do something and you felt a tugging on your heart or something in the back of your mind telling you to stay away from that situation?  Well, that was most likely The Holy Spirit guiding you to make the right decision.
In 1 John, John is talking about people who are enemies of Christ, and the things of this world that try to take your eyes off of God and the truth.  But you know another thing? Verse 14b reminds us that “…you are strong. The word of God lives in you, and you have defeated the Evil One.” Already, you’ve gained a victory over the evil one, so stand strong, don’t give in, keep your eyes on Jesus and His Second Coming. You have the truth in you! Don’t listen to the lies of this world.
You’ve got this.  It’s “a piece of cake” for you to resist the evil one.
Blessings to you.
