Just because you go to church (weekly or every now and then), own a bible, and even pray, doesn’t mean that you are a Christian.  Fellowship with godly folks, reading a scripture here and there, and praying is all good, but don’t place your eternal security in these practices.  You must believe and invite Jesus in to your heart and live for Him.
When I read 1 Samuel 4:1-11 it made me think about how people have that type of false security.  The Israelites were living like hellions during this time.  They were worshipping other gods.  When they felt that they were about to be defeated, they decided to have the Lord’s Covenant (“The Holy Box”) brought to them.  They thought that just because they had “the presence of the Lord” with them, that they would not be defeated.
Sounds like they live like hooligans and do as they please, but when trouble comes, “Ooo, let’s get some real God near us.  We’ll be fine as long as we have The Box with us.”
Well, God knew they were just playing church.  The Israelites did not walk the walk or talk the talk of being God’s chosen people.
Do you just “play church”? Just because you are a good person or even pray, go to church, and own a bible, isn’t going to cut it.  You are missing out on so many rich blessings that God has for you.
Having Christ in your heart is your eternal security.  John 14:6 says, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”  I pray that you get that eternal security.
John 3:16 was in my scripture reading this morning also.  How perfect!  A great reminder, from a well-known verse, of what love and life is all about.  “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  I pray that you believe in and accept Christ.
Don’t just “do” church, “be” the church.
Blessings to you.
