Words are powerful! Whether they are written, typed, texted, tweeted, or spoken…words carry much weight and scrutiny.
For example, just today I was privy to someone’s tweets on Twitter. (No, I don’t tweet. I don’t have time to tweet. I don’t need anything else potentially addicting in my life. I’m just saying.) I was appalled by the language that people are putting out there for the world to see. The person’s tweet that I read broke my heart. Why? Because this person is a “child of God”. They are held to a higher standard than others just because they profess to be a Christian. The influence this individual has on those are them had a negative tone.
If we are to speak or publish anything on a social network, I would hope that we would remember what Thumper was reminded of in the movie Bambi…“If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t saying anything at all.”
Okay, I’m totally getting off my original topic. Let’s get back to my point.
John the Baptist was probably one of the most passionate and outspoken men about Jesus Christ. His words were a great influence in the lives of those who heard him. His words are still powerful and encouraging today as we read the bible.
As powerful as John’s words were, there was still someone who spoke volumes without saying too much.
In John 5:36, Jesus says, “But I have a proof about myself that is greater than anything John said. The things I do are my proof. These are what my Father gave me to do. They show that the Father sent me.”
The popular saying, “Actions speak louder than words” is apparent here.
What did He do? Ha! What didn’t He do! The miracles that Jesus performed were numerous. I can’t wait to get to heaven and read the plethora of books in God’s library (Yes, Tonya, I just may be reading some books in heaven. Haha) that tells the many untold stories of Christ. Even better…I’ll plop down in front of Jesus’ feet and have Him tell me some Himself.
Let’s relate this to our lives. Yes, our words are powerful; no matter the avenue they are presented. But our actions do speak volumes.
Don’t just talk the talk of being a Christian, but walk the walk too.
