I was lying down having my prayer time with God. I was being passionate about my petitions and then “buuuuzzzzzzz” a mosquito decided it wanted to join in on my time with God.
What do you want to do when you see a mosquito on you? Do you look at it and say what a precious bug? NO! You want to smash it!
What about when you hear one near your ear. Do you sit still and wait for it to land on you? Do you get a smile on your face and start humming a familiar tune? NO WAY! You do a funky dance, move your arms profusely, and shake your head.
O.K., you’re preparing to enjoy a family dinner out in the open air. What do you do to keep the mosquitoes away? Well you either burn citronella candles, spray a backyard spray, protect your body by spraying down with a repellant, and/or you invest in a fancy machine that keep the mosquitoes away from you and your family.
You do all you can to keep those blood-feeding, irritant, pain in the neck insects away from you and your family.
Well, isn’t sin like a mosquito? It is found worldwide, feeds on our blood, spreads diseases, etc. much like the definition above.
What if we were to protect our minds and bodies from sin much like we do from a mosquito? What if when we see or hear sin approaching and we do a little “funky dance” and smash it or run the opposite direction from it? That’s what we should do.
1 Timothy 6:11 says, “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.”
Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” in John 8:11
Acts 3:19 says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,”
So, bathe yourself in His Word, keep your eyes and ears open and be ready to rid the sin in your life, and put on the full armor of God.
Ephesians 6:10-18
New International Version (NIV)
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
