god chose youDo you sometimes say or do something without thinking? Boy, I know I have (and still make that mistake occasionally), and “Ouch”…it does not always end so pretty.
Thinking before you say or do anything is very wise.  It demonstrates self-control.
When I read 1 Peter 1:13-16 this morning, the first sentence said, “So prepare you minds for action and exercise self-control.”  Self control isn’t something that comes easily.  It is a characteristic that requires practice and patience as well.  (That’s a whole other journal session or two.)
In verse 15, it reads, “now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”  First of all, take a moment and immerse yourself in the fact that God chose you.  Whew!  That should make you feel special. *smile*dance*jump up and down*
Now, when you are a Christian you have Jesus in your heart, body, mind, and soul. God wants you to be more like Him.  He desires the best for you.  So in everything you do (in speech and actions) strive to live the godly life.  He is in you, so why not try to live the way that will be pleasing to Him.
I like the “let-me-tell-you-like-it-is” way that the Message translations says 1 Peter 1:13-16:
So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”
When you think before you say or do anything now, just remember that it’s not about YOU, it’s all about God. Make Him happy; even if you have to suffer for a little while by biting your tongue, it will all be worth it in the end.
Bring glory to God in all you say and do. Allow Him to shape and mold you into the person He wants you to be.
I pray many blessings and much joy for you! – Stephanie
