Proverbs 10:17, “The road to life is a disciplined life; ignore correction and you’re lost for good.”
Chemistry 1 Honors and Algebra 2 Honors are not my eldest son’s best friends right now. They are probably not even on the friend list at all. One of them, as he puts it, is “ruining his life”. (A chuckle is good here. Haha) Steps have been taken to help him become more disciplined in these areas.
Before this last grading period ended, he did start a one-on-one tutor situation in Algebra. The tutor told Hunter that he knows how to do the math; he just needs to write each step down, show his work, and see it through. That is exactly what I tell my own Algebra class. (Thank you, Eric, for those words coming from you and not “momma”.) Well, test time came. Hunter had studied hard. Prayers went up. Words of encouragement and reminders were said before the test. He did as he was told. And do you know what happened? He passed!! Woohoo! If he had not been tutored and would have continued on this “not so disciplined” study habit, the results would have been different.
Now, chemistry tutoring is starting, and we are expecting the same improved results. The choice is Hunter’s though. If he chooses to listen to instruction, he will succeed. If he chooses to ignore it, he will continue to be lost and have a “ruined” (as he calls it) life.
Are we so different in other areas of our own lives? Not me. I can clearly see times in my life when I wanted to, and did, do things my way instead of the right way, and I ended up paying the price. We must be willing to change, accept constructive criticism, and be teachable.
BTW, prayers for this last grading period are appreciated.
