“I just want to be popular.”  I’ve heard that before. When I heard my daughter say those words back when she was in first grade(!), I started saying, “It’s fine to be popular, as long as you’re popular for the right reasons.”  Well, those thoughts are gone for her. Holly is now my “tell it like it is” kind of girl. Now I find myself telling her, “It’s great to stand up for what you think is right, please do, just be sure that it is right and BE GRACIOUS.”
I used to be one of those girls. Involved in everything in school, community, etc.. People knew me. Having accolades were important to me. (Remember, I am the only girl and the youngest out of four siblings. I had to be in the spotlight. Haha) Praise God that girl is gone. (I hope.) Now I just want to be known as a godly chic with integrity, who wants to know more about God and His ways, and is not afraid to share His love. He deserves and can have ALL the accolades.
Why did these thoughts come to mind this morning? In reading Mark 12:14 the Pharisees and Herodians said to Jesus, “Teacher, we know that You are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because You pay no attention to who they are; but You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.”  Then in Psalm 33:18, 19-23 it says, “But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love,” “We wait in hope for the LORD;  He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in You.”
These verses, to me, encourage me to not be swayed by others, but to do what is right in God’s sight. To God be all the glory! (I’ll just take the scraps. Haha)
Lord, keep me grounded in You! I want Your eyes and love on me. Thank You for helping me and keeping me humble when I get bigger than I should.  I rejoice in You and trust in Your holy name. Amen.
