I had a thought…well…lots of thoughts, but this one while cleaning around the house…
How many of you clean your home, or at least have it picked up, before you go away on vacation?  Or…some of you may clean your home before a professional cleaning crew comes to clean.  Am I right?  I’ve been guilty of it myself.  Some of you may be like me, I like to keep my home presentable any day.  You never know when someone may stop by (I always want folks to feel like they can come by for a visit…just give me a quick call first to make sure I’m home.).  Another reason, a morbid reason, I like to have a tidy home is I think “What if I get in an accident or Jesus calls me home. I hope my home is ready for visitors.”  I know…creepy…but that’s how I roll.  Not in a neurotic way, just a clean/orderly home calms me.  A messy home stresses me out.
So, here’s my thought…what if we kept our body, Jesus’ house, in shipshape condition?  Seriously, if you are a child of God, Christ is a permanent resident IN you, and you never know when He will call you to your Heavenly home.  Would God be stressed or calm when He welcomes you? (Not that God gets stressed.)
I challenge you, encourage you, to keep Christ dwelling tidy (see bible verses that follow):

  • Selflessness
  • Free from pride
  • Be humble
  • Honor others more than yourself
  • Don’t get drunk
  • Stop worrying about this life
  • Be ready
  • Pray
  • Train for godliness…get into the word!
  • LOVE

You should know that you yourselves are God’s temple. God’s Spirit lives in you. 1 Corinthians 3:16

You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don’t own yourselves. 20 God paid a very high price to make you his. So honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves.Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too. Philippians 2:3-4

“Be careful not to spend your time having parties and getting drunk or worrying about this life. If you do that, you won’t be able to think straight, and the end might come when you are not ready.”  Luke 21:34

So be ready all the time. Pray that you will be able to get through all these things that will happen and stand safe before the Son of Man. Luke 21:36

Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.  1 John 4:16

How to live isn’t new to Soaking up The Son.  Click here to read devotionals.  I pray that you will be encouraged. (You may have to edit as you read along. Ugh.)
I pray that you will be the light that Christ desires for you to be.  Shine bright for God.
Blessings to you and yours,
