The Sunday worship service had come to an end. The boys were on their way to play golf and I had a plan. My plan included a brief lunch and an extended nap.
Do you ever just crave something to eat, and you can just taste it in your mouth before you even see it? That’s how I was for a McDonald’s hamburger with ketchup only, an order of small fries, and a small Coke. Yep…don’t judge. My $3.51 meal I just happen to look forward to once every week or two. (I’m a cheap date…sometimes.) The drive-thru greeters and I exchanged smiles and a pleasant “How are you today?” and “Have a wonderful New Year.” Before I pulled out onto traffic, I inserted the straw into my small drink, opened the bag and saw an abundance of fries (much more than normal, which I must say I got a little giddy about), grabbed my tiny burger to open and lay in my lap to prepare for devouring into my grumbling tummy. When I took a sip of my drink, I was awaiting the carbonation to explode in my mouth, but instead of a tingling sensation, the sugary taste of sweet tea glided down my throat. Hmmm, that’s not what I was expecting, but all is well, I’m a southern girl who likes her sweet tea. Then, my giddiness for my fries was about to cause me to do a little happy dance in the car (you know those fries are so good), yet…again…this was not what I expected. I am now convinced that I had such an abundance of French fries because they were making way for the hot and fresh fries that the next person in line got to enjoy. Ugh! Soggy, not-so-warm fries. But I didn’t let it stop me from enjoying the entire contents of my insignificant lunch.
This scene reminded me of Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
When you take a bite (okay, not literally) of God’s word, it will not…He will not disappoint. Sure, there are verses and stories that may make us a little uncomfortable, but the lessons we learn from the bible are in abundance and are amazing! It may not be what you were expecting, because God’s word is so much more!
My lunch plan may have needed a little adjusting, but the second part of it worked out perfectly. The extended nap was just what the doctor ordered.
Hey, there’s another lesson…The Great Physician desires for us to “Be still”. When we do we acquire a better understanding of who He is and what He desires for us. Ooops, I’m getting a little ahead of myself. That’s part of my next journal entry. Stay tuned.
I pray you do taste and see that the LORD is good. Dive into His word. It will leave you hungry for more of Him.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
