My loves.

(Repost from July 24th, 2013.  Still relevant today for me. Now my children consists of two adults and one teen.  Being a parent never ends.  The only thing new in this post is an updated photo enclosed.)
Wow! God really was pointing His finger at me today and convicting me.
I do talk to my children about biblical things, have seen them accept Christ as their Savior and baptized, and pray over and for my children.  But when I read how Paul had been with this group of followers for three years and never stopped reminding them how they should live, counseled them day and night, and cried over them, I wonder “Have I done enough?”
Acts 20:26-27 andActs 20:31 say:

  • “So today I can tell you one thing that I am sure of: God will not blame me if some of you are not saved. 27 I can say this because I know that I told you everything that God wants you to know.”
  • “So be careful! And always remember what I did during the three years I was with you. I never stopped reminding each one of you how you should live, counseling you day and night and crying over you.”

Paul led them by example:

  • “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” Acts 20:35

Let’s see, I’ve been with Hunter over 17 years, Holly 15 years, and Cole 11 ½ years. Have I done enough?

It’s easy for me to walk the walk and talk the talk with others.  I have no problem sharing God’s love by speaking or typing for all to see.  But when I’m with my family, when it should be the most important to me, I let my guard down (I feel) when it comes to chatting about Jesus and how He wants us to live our lives.
They may not agree and say, “Mom, you talk to us and ask us questions about God all the time!”  They’re teenagers…of course their going to think that the occasional God conversation is “all the time”.  But is it enough?
I discovered after my mother-in-law recently passed away, that she questioned herself and commented, “I wish I would have done more for Jesus.”  I was shocked.  This came from a woman that was scrupulous in her prayer life, taught Sunday school for years, was active in her bible study and mission group, and on and on.
Her statement made me ask myself the same. “Have I done enough?”
Well, I am a Jesus freak, but not in some crazy kind of way.  There are many things that I have done and said for Christ to my children and others, but there is always more to share.  I’m not finished growing in Christ myself.  You may say about me, “Construction Zone: God’s not finished with me yet.”  As I learn and grow, I hope to show it to others.
Living by example, as Paul did, needs to be more on the forefront of our minds.
And the words that Paul echoed in verse 35 that Jesus once said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” definitely should be a motto and a reminder for us all.
I had just had a conversation with Holly today while we were walking on the beach, and quoted this scripture.  I didn’t even know that it was part of my daily scripture reading for today.  Hmmm, maybe I do talk the talk while walking with my child.
Have you done enough?  Let’s continue to work hard, help the weak, share God’s love with others, and give them Jesus.
Blessings to y’all.
