This past week I’ve been awaken twice at 4:30 and once at 2:30. That’s in the morning! Hello!!!! When I mentioned it to Holly, she ask, “Why?’ I said, “I don’t know, ask God.”
I know that when this has happened before that I just accepted it as time for me to chat it up with Jesus. Prayer time is often sweet then. I usually go back to sleep, but this week, Nah, that wasn’t the case. Hormones? LOL.
After some prayer time, hoping that I’d go back to sleep, I proceeded to wash a load a clothes. Why not? I wasn’t sleeping and there’s always house work to be done. Right? (Three loads got done before work that day.)
After I put the first load of clothes in the washer I started looking up scripture to claim to help me sleep. I came across Psalm 127:2b. I soooo remember repeating this scripture to the Lord and praying it over my youngest son, Cole. He didn’t sleep through the night his first four years of life. Again…really? I’m sure I totally was taking it out of context, but it worked. It says, “…for the Lord grants sleep to those He loves.” I was like, “Lord, I know you love me, so can I PLEASE go back to sleep until it’s really time to wake up?” But I guess God wasn’t finished with me yet.
Here are a few more scriptures I found just in case you need one in the wee hours of the morning to claim:
“When I go to bed, I sleep in peace, because, Lord, you keep me safe.” Psalm 4:8.
“When you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you rest, your sleep will be peaceful” Proverbs 3:24
“’I will give rest and strength to those who are weak and tired.’ After hearing that, I, Jeremiah, woke up and looked around. My sleep was very pleasant.” Jeremiah 31:25-26
God led me to some cool places in the bible. I not only read the above verses, but read the chapters in their entirety and just kept falling more in love with my Savior.
Well, I may not have been able to sleep those nights, but God did sustain me through the following days. He gave me strength and peace when needed. And now…I am totally relaxing with my man this weekend on the sandy, yet cold, shores of the beach.
Ahhh, life is good, but boy oh boy is God great!
I hope you find rest and strength in Him. Keep your focus on God and He will bring you rest. It may not be that night, but it will come.
I pray many blessings and much joy for you! Have a wonderful day. – Stephanie
This post was perfect for me tonight, as here I sit at 10:43PM (which is early for me) after having already tried to get to bed early. I also started reading the Bible (on my laptop from the daily READ Initiative portions – I’m a little behind, so I’m doing some catch up). It’s amazing how God’s Word calms our spirit and how much we learn (or see that we hadn’t “seen” before) when we dig into it. It’s good to know someone else in my community also enjoys doing laundry in the middle of the night. Thanks for the sleepy time Scriptures…definitely worth saving. Enjoy your weekend!
Cheryl, thank you for your comment. You just put a smile on my face. I needed this encouragement from you right now. Have a beautiful day.
