“What Matters Most”. This was the theme of our summer regional with my husband’s company Edward Jones Investments. When I heard the theme, I knew what my answer was.
You see, summer regional is the time when financial advisors and their families gather to learn, share, and grow together. You heard that right…family. I am so grateful that Tim works for a company where family is a priority in the firm. Our first regional meeting occurred when our eldest son, Hunter, was just shy of three months of age. So when people ask me how long Tim has been with Edward Jones, that’s easy…Hunter’s age, and this year was our 23rd summer regional. Our children (Hunter, Holly, and Cole) gained many brothers and sisters AND parents when they were born. So, each June these summer regionals are more like family reunions. As the children get older and have now become dependent adults, the dynamics change. Where we used to have approximately fourteen close “EJ brothers and sisters”, this year there were only three.
Okay, so sure…family is a priority, yet so is serving to do what is financially best for each client, and encouraging/mentoring fellow advisors.
So allow me to take liberty in connecting these three concepts to our life in Christ:
- Family matters. Whether it is your immediate family or the body of Christ, family matters.
- Doing what is best matters. In Colossians 3:23 we are instructed to “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” So I’d like to encourage you to do your best in everything you do! Your actions, words, expressions, etc….do your best.
- Encouraging others matters. Encouraging others means that you are giving someone support, building confidence, and giving hope. Oh, dear friend, that is exactly what I strive to do through my journal entries here on soakinguptheson.com. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
Yet, these three bullet points were not my first thought when I heard the motto, “What Matters Most”. I automatically went to Jesus Christ. Yes, He is what matters most! And you know what? A few days after my original hearing of the theme, the following verse appeared in my daily scripture reading:
In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Colossians 3:11 NLT
AMEN! CHRIST IS ALL THAT MATTERS!
My answer was clear and confirmed.
What is your response to “What matters most”?
Have a beautiful day.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
