What a beautiful way to end 2020.
The scene caused me to be reflective, and it was a reminder of the perspective I need to have for the upcoming year.
I was busy doing laundry. Tim came inside and said in a quiet voice, “Come out here”. When I stepped onto the porch, he pointed out the two deer in our backyard. We stealthily maneuvered our way closer and closer to the deer. I found myself sitting in the chair quietly observing each movement of the two precious deer.
Sitting in the chair, it was as if God whispered to me, “See, My child, you were busy being a Martha inside, and now you are being like Mary resting and soaking Me in.” Ahhh, yes, I truly was taking in each breath with depth, and embracing the stillness of the moment.
While Jesus and his followers were traveling, he went into a town, and a woman named Martha let him stay at her house. She had a sister named Mary. Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet and listening to him teach. But her sister Martha was busy doing all the work that had to be done. Martha went in and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are getting worried and upset about too many things. Only one thing is important. Mary has made the right choice, and it will never be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 ERV
As we begin this new year, will you choose to be a Mary or a Martha? There are times you will be both, yet remember that making time to be still and rest with Jesus is the important choice.
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10 NLT
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
Ponder on:
- Do I allow my surroundings to determine how I spend my time with Jesus? If so, what do I need to change to be able to spend more time in God’s word?
- How can I find time to embrace God’s goodness in my every day life?
- I may know about God, but do I truly know Him? If you don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I want to encourage you to Click here and find out how you can.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you for those gentle reminders to be still. Help me to rest in Your word, embrace the little moments in life that may pass me by because I’m too busy doing life, and choose wisely how to live. I love you, Lord. Amen.
