Last Friday night, a guy from MOSI (The Museum of Science and Industry) in Tampa was at our hotel in Clearwater, Florida. He had his hi-tech telescope set up to view the stars and planets. It was awesome! I saw Saturn’s rings as clear a can be. I joked with the guy about how it was so perfect that he must have put a sticker on the lens. Nope! It was the real thing.
I quickly went up the elevator to get Cole. My inquisitive child would love it! Cole came down, we went to the MOSI guy’s station, and Cole peeked into the telescope. Nothing! The clouds had covered it up. We looked intently into the sky waiting on the clouds to move so Saturn would be visible again. While we waited, we gazed at Mars and the fourth largest star in the universe, Arcturus. Wow! The cost of the telescope….about $4,000. The look on Cole’s face…..priceless! God’s creation is so amazing!
We glanced back towards Saturn. We waited and waited for the clouds to move. Finally, a brief break between the clouds came. Cole peered into the telescope. He saw the rings around Saturn and said, “This is soooo cool!”
Today I began reading the book of Acts. In Acts 1:1-11 is the account of when Jesus was taken up to Heaven. In verses 9-10 it says, “…He was taken up before their eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going,” This reminded me of the Saturn sighting.
Are we looking as intently as Cole and the disciples towards the sky? In verse 11 we are told, “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Look! Be on guard! He is coming back! Are you ready? It will be, as Cole says, ” Sooooo cool!”
