I had just made the comment to a friend, “If I went to sleep at 9:30 p.m., I’d probably be up around 2:30 a.m.” Well, that’s exactly what happened.
I woke from a terrifying nightmare. I can’t recall what was happening in it; I only remember a sense of evil and darkness in my mind. When I woke, my heart wasn’t racing, and my thoughts weren’t lingering on frightening scenes. Instead, I simply wondered, “Why did that happen?” Strange. Brief. Yet so dark.
After lying in bed for an hour and going through my mental prayer list, I decided to rise and shine.
I must say, I’ve never regretted what I did next.
It was time to begin a new book of the Bible. I had finished 1, 2, and 3 Peter, and the next book was calling my name. First John, chapter one, was exactly what I needed after waking from such a dark mindset: God is light. Amen and amen!
Getting into the truth and reading about my Savior is always refreshing. There are things in life I regret doing, but spending my time and filling my mind with God’s Word has never been one of them.
I pray you’ll dive into the Bible and share in the joy I find there—even in the wee hours of the morning.
“We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.” 1 John 1:4
“God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all.” 1 John 1:5b
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
