Years ago, Tim and I went with a group of friends to stay the weekend on Cabbage Key, a quaint little island off the west coast of Florida. Our friend’s mother lived on the island. One evening, we walked to her momma’s house for dinner.  After eating a delicious home cooked meal and enjoying the company of each other, we all started heading back to our cottages for the night. The moon was scarcely visible, and it was a dark DARK night. No one had brought a flashlight. On the way to the cottages, we had to walk through a long canopy of trees that were low and snug. It was like we were trying to navigate our way through a tunnel. We created a human chain by latching on to each other as we walked through the pitch-dark passageway. It was so dark you could not even see your hand if it were an inch from your face.  While walking through the tunnel, you could hear us laughing at the thought of our “scared of the dark” moment. The island is small, and a couple of guys did know their way. By listening to the sound of their voice and holding on to one another, we felt safe. I couldn’t even imagine navigating our way in an unfamiliar, unsafe, and unilluminated place. No thank you.

In verses 8-11 of 2 Timothy 1, we are reminded that God illuminated the way for us. That way is through Jesus Christ. He is the only way.

There may be, there will be, moments of darkness in life. Let’s face it, Satan desires nothing more than to cause you fear, wants to try to steal you away from your walk with Christ, and loves to create doubt in your mind. I want to encourage you to keep your eyes focused on the Ultimate Light, Jesus Christ. He is always with you, even in those times of darkness. The Lord has you in the palm of His hand and isn’t letting go.

It is my prayer today that you will shine bright for Jesus, by walking in His light. Listen to the sound of His voice by getting in His word. Hold on to the Lord to guide you through life. When you do, you will be encouraging others to look to Him as well.

So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of this Good News.  2 Timothy 1:8-11

Blessings to you and yours,

Stephanie
