You want a romance and passion in your marriage?  Read and live out the book of the bible, Song of Songs.  You just might find yourself blushing when reading that book.
I hear women talking negative about their man.  Putting their spouse down, possibly without even realizing how it sounds.  Men, don’t think you’re off the hook, the same has been heard from you too. We can get caught up in trash-talk and being negative ninnies.  Well, STOP!  If you must say anything about your spouse, speak passionately about your loved one to others.  Seriously, read Song of Songs and let that be an example of how to speak of your spouse…passionately and precious.
Now, today a theme that I noticed intertwining through the “Walking in the Word” scriptures was the call to purity.
In Song of Solomon 8:4 it says, “Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.” It quoted those same words a couple of times in yesterday’s reading also. In “Stephanie’s translation” I’d say, “Don’t be a tease. When the time is right, which is when you are married, tease and act on it all you want.”  Why do I say to save yourself until you are married?  Because that’s what God wants us to do.  Here are a couple of verses:

  • Hebrew 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, “God wants you to be holy. He wants you to stay away from sexual sins. 4 God wants each one of you to learn to control your own body. Use your body in a way that is holy and that gives honor to God. 5 Don’t let your sexual desires control you like the people who don’t know God.”

Sexual temptation is out there.  It is thrown in our faces through media every day. We see and hear this in the songs heard on the radio, the advertisements on the television, and the clothes on the mall racks.  Like they say, “sex sells”.  But can I tell you something?  Don’t sell yourself to lust. If you find yourself in a situation of temptation…RUN! Run fast and far away.  Our flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41 tells us, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
Just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean that you won’t be tempted to give in to sex.  Bologna! Satan would like nothing more than for you to give in to that temptation.  Don’t let him think he’s got you.  You are a child of God.  Act like it!  God wins in the end of it all anyhow, so why not be on His team and live out loud for God?

  • Romans 12:2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
  • Colossians 3:1-2, So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.”
  • 2 Corinthians 6:6, “We prove ourselves by our purity,” Prove yourself to be a child of God!

And girls, women of all ages….please read Romans 13:14, “Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”  Put some clothes on!  Yes, there are many styles out there that are lacey, short, and revealing that you may like.  Well, if you do purchase something that would be lustful looking by itself, then layer!  You can still be cute, but be modest.  Cover yourself up and don’t allow eyes to see your goods that should only be seen by your husband. (Save the “Song of Songs” acting out for your marriage bedroom.)   Excuse me, but if you dress like a “woman of perversion”, then you’re asking for it.  Dress yourself in a way that would make your momma and daddy happy.  In a way that would bring glory and honor to God.
How can you resist temptation of the sexual kind?  Keep your eyes on God.  Let God be your desire.  It will be hard at times, but…“With God we will gain the victory, Psalm 108:13.
Blessings to you!
