#ItsFriday. #GottaLoveIt. #WhatInTheWorldIsAHashtag?
Recently we had this conversation around our home about “What is a hashtag?” Tim and I ask each of the kids and they would just smile and say “I don’t know”. Seriously? #IDK? #LOL! (Trying to be “with it”. Not working. Hahaha)
Well, I thought about it, gave my two cents, and they each agreed and expanded on the meaning of it. (Ha! They knew the whole time, they just didn’t want to explain it to their “hip mom”. Are they afraid I’ll be too cool? Again…#thecoolthingisnotworking.) Okay, enough hash tags.
For those of you, we…the more mature generation, who still don’t understand or even seen a hashtag, here’s the low down:
- It the number/pound sign, # with a word or phrase following it, no spaces.
- You may use capital letters when you type a phrase to make your hashtag easier to read, but it is not necessary. #soakinguptheson and #SoakingUpTheSon will all go into the same account. It just makes it easier for one to understand long phrases.
- When you use social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) your hashtag gets put into a worldwide file that coincides with the same hashtag.
You still don’t understand? Me either, completely. Google it. There are tons of explanations, dos and don’ts.
But…it did give me THIS idea:
Okay, you know how Soaking Up The Son was created because I am a Florida girl who loves Jesus and enjoying my sunshine. And we are called to be the light of the world. So, when my friend Karen and I got together to create this site, that was the first title I wanted it to be and BAM it was available. So…Soaking Up The Son was created (Four years ago! Wow!). #NowYouKnow.
Well, I LOVE not only soaking up The Son, but the sun as well. Sunrise. Sunset. LOVE them!
Now THE idea:
Take a pic, or grab an old one of your favorites, and post it on your Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook. Use the hashtag #SoakingUpTheSon. You can use capitals or not. I just choose to use them because I want to show respect to The Son, Jesus! #HeIsTheBest.
Wouldn’t you enjoy seeing photos of sunrises and sunsets? They are very calming to me. Be creative! Post as many as you’d like.
Hmmmm, now does this mean I need to create a Twitter account? Yikes! Help, teenager!
