OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn Luke 19:1-10 we read the story of a wee little man. Go ahead, you know you want to sing or hum the song about Zacchaeus. Anyhow…in verse 10 we read, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Yes, that’s right, God seeks. He pursues us.
He pursues us in love:
We love because God first loved us. 1 John 4:19
Yet, when you read the preceding verses in Luke 19 you find that Zacchaeus was doing some seeking himself.
Verse three tells us that “He wanted to see who Jesus was”. However, because Zacchaeus was petite in stature he “ran to a place where he knew Jesus would come. Then he climbed a sycamore tree so he could see Him” (v.4). This displays an atmosphere of desperation on Zacchaeus’ part.
Oh, how his feelings weren’t just of inquisitiveness and desperation. Zacchaeus was intoxicated with delight! In verse 6 we read, “Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.”
Seeking God is prevalent in the bible. Take a look at only a few scriptures:

  • “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always.” 1 Chronicles 16:11. He will give your strength.
  • “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33. He will supply all your needs.
  • “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13. Seek Him with ALL your heart.
  • “Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that He is real and that He rewards those who sincerely try to find Him.” Hebrews 11:6. Seek God earnestly and sincerely.
  • But may all who seek You rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for Your saving help always say, “The Lord is great!” Psalm 40:16. Seek God and be happy!

We could go on and on with seeking God. I want to encourage you to seek Him. Sincerely seek the Lord with all your heart for all your needs, and rejoice in Him. Do like Zacchaeus did and pursue Christ with much inquisitiveness and desperation. You will discover that you too will be filled with much excitement and joy.
God is waiting for you. Go find Him.
I pray that you will enjoy soaking up The Son every moment of each day. –Stephanie
