Cole

You never know what is going on in little minds. I especially don’t know what is going through my youngest child’s mind. Cole can be the most compassionate, forgiving, obedient, and persistent child ever. (Notice I said “can”. That doesn’t mean always. Haha) The one thing that does stay consistent with my ten year old is his heart and love for Jesus. He tends to amaze me with conversations he has with others. For example, yesterday we were on our way to the grocery store and he proceeded to tell me about how there is this boy at his school that believes in many gods. I said, “There is only one God.” Then, Cole jumped in and said, “I know that is what I told him I told him that he may worship little “g” gods, but there is only one capital “G” God.” (How precious is that?!) Our conversation continued and Cole is not going to give up on this other boy, but will pray for him and his entire family. My heart is leaping as I am typing this. So exciting to hear these words from my child!
This is not the first time Cole has had this type of discussion with me. He has a story or question all the time. One thing he persistently does is ask about famous people and says, “Is he/she a Christian?”  (I guess not everyone is like Tim Tebow and wears their belief on their forehead.J)  For instance, I went and googled this site to see where it, or if it would, come up on the search engine. The first site that appeared was Sheryl Crow’s song “Soak up the sun”. I love that song and its beat! I totally had forgotten that that was the name of it, and remembered that when it came out how the first couple of lines in the chorus were perfect for a saying I have always said, which is “I’m soaking up The Son in the sun.” (hence the name of this site). Then the song got stuck in my mind and so I started singing it all around the house.
Just a couple of days ago, I was even daring enough to send Sheryl a message about turning the song into a Christian song for me so I can put it on my website. (It doesn’t hurt to ask. All she can say is “No”) Well, yesterday when Cole and I walked into the grocery store what song did we hear as soon as we walked in? Yep, “Soak up the sun” by Sheryl Crow. I told Cole about what I did and what did he say… “Is she a Christian?”  That boy is on a mission!
This story came to mind when I read today’s scripture reading in Deuteronomy. Verse 35b says, “the LORD is God; besides him there is no other.”
“Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.”  Deut 4:39
“Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” Deuteronomy 4:9
So remember…. Teach your children and grandchildren, and anyone around you about God and His ways. Keep Him in your heart.   There is NO OTHER God but the Lord my God.
“Lord, I pray that all three of my children will always keep you first in their lives. May they love you with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. I pray that they will have a burning passion and desire for You! Amen.”

Hold on to Jesus!
