I have never had the experience of a loved one going off to war and wait for them to return home.  I know parents and spouses of those brave men and women who fight for our country, who have, and some still are, and I can just imagine their homecoming reunion.
Picture this in your mind:  A solider getting off their plane and seeing a sea of people to greet them.  They scan the crowd searching for their family.  Then, they faintly hear and recognize their loved one’s voice calling their name.  They see each other, their hearts are racing with excitement, and they are overjoyed as they embrace.
This is the scenario that came to my mind when I read today’s scripture reading in John 20:1-20.

  • Jesus has risen from the grave.  He had gone through The Battle for us.
  • Mary’s heart ached and was crying because she didn’t know where Jesus was.
  • Jesus called Mary’s name and she recognized His voice.
  • Later, Jesus saw His disciples and they were overjoyed.

Now, turn the tables.  You’ve been away in a battle yourself.  A stronghold of sin. You may or may not be ready for a homecoming, but God is ready for you to come back to Him.  He calls out your name. It’s been a while since you’ve heard His voice, but you recognize it.  You turn from your life of sin and embrace Christ.  He is overjoyed! You are filled with peace.
Now isn’t that a sweet homecoming?
Welcome home!
Blessings to you all,
Stephanie
