Where are you going?  It is summertime. Many families are going on a vacation. That vaca may be far away or, what we call nowadays, a “stay-cation”. Whether you are being creative or bored out of your mind with your stay-cation or are traveling afar, I bet you will know the way before you set out for a destination.
Some friends of mine went on an international trip and their teenage daughter, Maddie, searched online for activities for them to do and places for them to visit.  She had a plan for them and was ready to carry it out. Maddie knew if they were traveling by car, train, or on foot.  The times that locations were open for business were no surprise to her. Maddie knew where she was going and how to get there.
What if an old friend from your hometown wanted to come visit you?
“Come on.  I’ve got your room ready so you can come and stay with me.”
“How do I get there?”
“Oh, you know the way.”
“I have no clue how to get to your house.  If I did I wouldn’t have asked you.”
This conversation sounds a lot like the one in John 14:2-5:
I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I’m taking.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Like my friend Maddie, Jesus knew where He was going and was confident in how others should get there too.
Let’s define the three things Jesus said He is:
The WayThe path of getting from one place to another. He is the road to take from earth to Heaven.  Follow The Way and stay on the right road to your destination.  There are no detours or shorter routes.  He is the only way! (John 3:16, John 3:36, 1 John 5:12, 1 Corinthians 3:33, 1 Timothy 2:5-6)
The TruthThe thing that corresponds to fact or reality. I’ve seen the tagline on someone’s email signature that says, “The more I study science, the more I believe in God.” True.  It has been proven over and over again that Jesus was a reality, and it is a fact that He is who He says He is and He did what He did.  Try to prove that God’s Son didn’t exist, and you will be proven wrong. (John 8:32, John 1:1, 14)
The LifeLiving, existence, a way of living. Jesus is alive and active. He did live physically on this earth. He died, but He rose from the dead and still lives today in our hearts if you have accepted Him as your Savior. (John 17:3, John 11:25)
Just like you wouldn’t leave your old friend who was coming to stay with you hanging on how to get to your house, Jesus didn’t leave us hanging on how to get to His house. We must go through Him to get there. Period.
This is one vacation destination you don’t want to miss.  Open up His Word and know the way. Open up your heart and know The Way.
Happy Travels.
