The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, Proverbs 18:22
Poor Tim, we often joke about the “treasure” he acquired when he married me.  Was he receiving a great dowry when he asked me to be his wife?  Ha!  When I became Tim’s wife, he acquired the opposite… student loans!  I was bringing a debt, but he would agree that I was worth it.
I don’t believe that is the type of treasure that the scriptures were talking about though.  Our relationship is one to be treasured for sure.  I treasure the soon-to-be 21 years of marriage to my man.  We treasure the good and bad times that have helped form us into the couple and parents we are today.  We treasure our children and all the memories we are making with them. We treasure our extended families, our love, the blessings from God, and our relationship to Jesus Christ that continues to grow.  The closer we both grow to God, the closer we become to one another.
The other day, one of my “other sons” (Hunter’s friend) was spending the night.  I told him that I was praying for him as he is going through some medical issues.  Hunter piped in and said, “What about me?” in a joking way.  I hugged him and said, “Son, I pray for you constantly.”  And I began to list the many things I pray about and for him.  When I got to the part where I said, “I pray for your spouse.” He looked at me and said, “Am I married?” We laughed (he’s only sixteen and a junior in high school) and I explained to him that I’ve been praying for his relationships with others and he and his spouse since the day he was born.
You better believe it.  You may think I’m crazy, but this world is crazier than I am, and I’m going to pray my children up for everything.
Since I have a daughter too, I like how The Message translation reads; “Find a good spouse, you find a good life--,”.  Yes, life can be good. Life is good.  Will there be ups and downs? You bet.  But stick together, love each other through it all, learn from your mistakes, and give it all to God.
Blessings to you.
