If you’re anything like me, you’ve sat in a church pew or a stadium seat and thought that the preacher was speaking directly to you. “Ouch!  That hurt!” That would be the cry of my toes as they were being stepped on during some of those times.
Then there may be times when you think that “He must not be talking to me, but boy is he stepping on Joe’s toes.”  I sure hope you stop right there and reevaluate your thought.  (I know I’ve had to before.) One, you’re probably being a bit judgmental, and two, if you look deep within you, you are probably being convicted of something yourself.
In today’s “Walking in the Word” in the book of Acts, Paul was again being accused of something (God help him for spreading The Good Word.).  He was presenting his case before Governor Felix whom he knew had been a judge for a long time.  After Paul finished pleading his case, “Felix already understood a lot about the Way. He stopped the trial and said, “When commander Lysias comes here, I will decide what to do with you.” Felix told the army officer to keep Paul guarded but to give him some freedom and to let his friends bring whatever he needed.Acts 24:22-23.  Well, check out what verses 24 and 25 say: “Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.  As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, “That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.”  Ooooo, ouch, somebody’s toes were getting stepped on.
But not only that, sometimes we only want the preacher to preach about what we “feel comfortable” with.  We may have a tendency to get complacent in our walk with Christ and not wanting to grow.  When we read something in the bible that we know applies to us, but we don’t want to go there right now, it’s as if we are telling God, “Don’t call me.  I’ll call you.”
Let’s shake our self-righteousness off and put on the armor of Christ.  Let us open our hearts and minds to what Christ has to tell us through others and His word.  Let’s not get complacent in our walk with Christ, but always be excited about growing closer to Him and learning more about His ways.
Have a fabulous week.  I pray you will share God’s word and love with someone this week.
Blessing to you!
