The other day we were heading offshore in the Atlantic Ocean to go deep sea fishing. As I was looking out at the trail in the water we were leaving behind, I mentioned how peaceful yet powerful the water is. The strength it has yet the silence it can be amazes me. This illustration reminded me of God. God is the God of love and peace, and is more powerful than anything we could ever imagine.
These same waters we were venturing out into have given my family a smooth trip across the water to Bimini. It gave us a sense of peace and calmness. Then other times, terror has broken out. Hurricanes and treacherous storms have uprooted homes, town, and families. The waters is massive and powerful.
A few months ago Tim went back to Bimini for a guy’s fishing trip. I knew the weather was not looking too good for the adventure over the Atlantic water; so many prayers were going up. When he reached land and called to say that he made it safely, I asked him how the ride was. He said, “Remember that time you and I went out to catch dolphin and you didn’t like how rough it was? Well, it was much worse than that.” Oh yes I remember that trip. I was crying and ready to go home, and you don’t want to see a grown girl cry on a boat being tossed around. Get her to safety quick. Tim said they went through eight foot waves at times on their trek to Bimini that day, and the ride over took three times as long to get to where they were going due to the weather.
In today’s reading in Psalm 93:3-4 it reads, “LORD, the ocean roars. They mighty ocean sounds like thunder as the waves crash on the shore. The crashing waves of the sea are loud and powerful, but the LORD above is even more powerful.”
Yes He is! God is powerful!
Jeremiah 10:12, “It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding stretched out the heavens.”
Isaiah 26:4, “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”
When I gaze out over the waters, I am reminded of how powerful God is. He is more powerful than the waters. He amazes me!
