I found it fitting and also a wee-bit comical this morning when I read Titus 3:1-2.  Why? Because this weekend my church is having a prayerful weekend for our state and country as Election Day is approaching.
Each of our Sunday school classes signed up to pray at a specific time during a 24-hour period. My class designated 8:00am to be our “time to pray”.  Around 7:45 this morning, I was reading my scriptures from “Walking in the Word”.  I kept watching the clock to make sure that I was ready to drop to my knees to pray for this season of important elections at 8:00am.  Jaci Velasquez’s song “On My Knees” kept going through my mind (checkout this powerful song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By-8BN316mM ).  Right before the eight o’clock hour I read those two verses from Titus.  They say:
“Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. 2 They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.”
I chuckled to myself thinking, “I sure wish Romney and Obama (and any political candidate for that matter) would have and would read those verses.  The slander is always ridiculous and almost nauseating.
Then my thoughts turned to some of the hideous comments people put on Facebook about their candidate, the opponent, or just insults they say to their own friends over this election. Ugh!  What drama!
No matter what your political affiliation is, I pray that you are all prayerful and respectful during this season, and that you will “respect the government and be law-abiding, always ready to lend a helping hand” (The Message).
Let’s be godly examples to others that are in and outside of our country.  And remember that God is The Great Authority.  He is the King of Kings and the Lord of lords.  He is The True Ruler and will reign forever.
Pray the vote! Get out and vote!
Blessings to you.
