I’ve often told God (yep, I told Him) what I wanted in a given situation.  But after I had voiced my desire to Him, I also informed God that even though that is what I want, I completely want His will to be done.
Have you ever been real with God and informed Him what you want?  I believe He wants us to do so.
In Mark 14:36 Jesus did the same thing.  He is again giving us an example of how to pray.

  • “He said, “ Abba, Father! You can do all things. Don’t make me drink from this cup. But do what you want, not what I want.”

We clearly see that Jesus didn’t want to have to die the horrific death that He knew was going to happen, but He still was real with His Father.  Just like us, Jesus had feelings too.
But, Jesus didn’t just pray that prayer once, but in verse 39 we read, “Again Jesus went away and prayed the same thing.”
This concern was heavily weighing on Jesus mind and in His heart.  Allow this to be an example to be persistent with your prayer to God.
Then, in a few verses later (verses 41 and 42), we must come to the conclusion that after Jesus prayed His same prayer to God for a third time, He was given confirmation.  It says, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be handed over to the control of sinful men. 42 Stand up! We must go. Here comes the man who is handing me over to them.”
The confirmation given by God was not insync with the request made by His Son, but Jesus accepted it.  Remember…Jesus did inform God of His desire, but He totally wanted God’s will to be done.  Well, God had spoken and The Christ listened.
Allow this to be another example for us to be accepting and understanding when “our way” is not “His way”.  His way is best!
Blessings to you.
