"Three Little Marys" (I was going through my plethora of sunset pictures, and when I saw this one I just had to smile. It is Holly and two of our sweet friends in the Keys about six years ago.)

Tim and I just returned from a sweet retreat with friends at the beach. There is just something about time at the beach that just takes any worries away.  Especially when I get to enjoy a sunset, with my toes in the sand, I just soak it all up and feel life’s pressures melt away.
There have been many times that while I’m sitting enjoying the sunset (alone or with friends) that I imagine that it’s just me and God.  People say that God speaks in various ways.  As the breeze has brushed across my face, it is almost as if God was whispering in my ear. Those moments just make me tilt my head back in my chair, take a deep breath, and relax with God. When I stare in awe of the sky’s canvas and admire God’s beautiful masterpiece, I am often reminded of scriptures or precious stories that God has taught me to remember that He is in total control.
Today as I read the familiar story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42 I was reminded of how God desires us to sit, relax, and listen to Him.
There are many days that I would love to just be a “Mary” all day, but the “Martha” has work to do.
Yes, we all have some “Martha” in us, we must, but we need to remember to sit, relax, and listen to Him like Mary did.  Start and end your day being a “Mary”, and those “Martha” moments will all work out.

  • 38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Here’s my Mary and Martha journal entry from last year on these same verses: Go Get Your “Mary” On

Blessings to you.
