You can tell a lot by looking into people’s eyes.  When I read Proverbs 13:9-10, the eyes of others is one of the thoughts that ran through my head.  It says, “The lives of good people are brightly lit streets; the lives of the wicked are dark alleys.”  At first I read this scripture in two other translations.  But the way The Message was written gave me great imagery.
I look into over 120 students’ eyes each day.  The “stuff” that goes on in some of their lives are often inconceivable.   I see lostness, darkness, and stress in some of those precious eyes.  My heart aches for them and I so wish I could “legally” take them aside and bluntly share Jesus and hope with them.  All I can do, as some students have informed me, is be there for them and be like a second mom to them.  Oh, believe me, God peeks through my hugs, words, and smile.
Then, there are those who just radiant goodness and happiness through their eyes.  Even on the days when life may get them a little down, you can still tell they have The Hope in them.  They are a ray of sunshine, or should I requite…”a brightly lit street”.
When people look into your eyes, what can they tell about you?  Are you a flicker, dim, or bright light to them?  Or are the lights out and others feel like they are in a dark alley when they are around you?
I pray that God’s love will radiate through your precious eyes.  Even in your tired and stressed days, may others get a glimpse of hope and God’s love in your eyes.
Blessings to you.
