Hunter truly enjoying life!
The Simple Life. Ahhh, those are words I’ve heard for many years. Since I grew up in the country, and still live in a small town, these are words that I have grown to appreciate.
Now, I’m not saying that life is all that simple, but when I look around at others’ lives, or see things on the news, or visit a busy metropolitan area, my lifestyle seems to be quite laidback compared to others.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my son, Hunter, posted this on his Facebook wall: April 28 via mobile: I’m a fan of the simple life. When I first read it, I was like “Yes! Me too.” I even noticed that my mom “liked” his post. Then I questioned it and thought that he was probably posting a song or something.
After I read my scriptures this morning, I asked Hunter what his post was really about. Sorry, mom, but he really was talking about a country song and not just enjoying the true “simple life”. (Even though he “gets it” and is a fan.)
When I searched for the lyrics of the song “Simple Life” by Drake White some of those words seems familiar, and brought back good memories (most that still hold true today for me). The lyrics were:
Waving at my neighbor when I meet him on the road
Kissing on my woman in the moonlight
Yeah, I’m a fan of the simple life
Give me a good pair of boots
A small piece of land
A little ol’ house where I can hang my hat
I’ll be a happy man
Yes, I’m a fan of the simple life

I’ll take an old church pew with my family sittin’ next to me
I said a sunrise, sunset grillin’ on the back steps
Pickin’ on a good song tonight
Hey I’m a fan of the simple life
Well, I’m not kissing a woman in the moonlight, but I sure do kiss my man. And you can bet I enjoy the sunrise and sunset and something good on the grill. Sittin’ on a church pew with my family next to me…absolutely! I’m not just living the simple life, but a truly blessed life.
Okay, so you want to know the scripture that led me to this whole “simple life” chit-chat? It came from Proverbs 13:7, “A pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life.” (The Message).
In the NIV it reads, “One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.”
No matter how wealthy you have or will become in life, remember to: be humble, keep in mind Who blessed you, give generously, don’t set yourself on a pedestal, and enjoy the simple life.
