Summertime is over and now it’s time to figure out “What in the world do I wear today?”
The week before school started my daughter went clothes shopping with a friend.  With the “school dress code” in mind, Holly had to make sure she chose wisely.  She’s limited on wearing shorts because her legs are so long. Normal length shorts on someone else look too short on her, and she won’t even think about wearing Bermuda style shorts.
The day before school Holly was arranging various outfits, taking pictures, and sending text messages to friends to get their opinion on her outfits.
This morning, after I read my scriptures, Holly came downstairs with one of her outfits on and ready for her school day.  I shared Romans 10:14 with her.  It says, “Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.” (NLT)  I often read other translations.  Here is how this verse reads in the Easy-to-Read and the Message:

  • But be like the Lord Jesus Christ, so that when people see what you do, they will see Christ. Don’t think about how to satisfy the desires of your sinful self. (ERV)
  • Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about! (MSG)

So I told her, “Holly, before you text your friends for approval, you should check with God and say, ‘God, is this okay with You?’” She smiled and I could tell the thought resonated within her.
Friend code, school dress code, or parent code are all fine for receiving approval, but the one code we should all desire to please is The God Code.
What do people see when they see you?  Will they see someone who has robed themselves of fleshly desires (sin), or will they see God’s love radiating from the inside out?
Dress yourself in Christ.
Blessings to you all!
