As I woke up yesterday morning I could hear the pitter-patter of the rain outside.  This could have “dampened” my spirit, but instead it gave me a sense of newness and calmness.
Then, this morning as I was lying in bed reflecting on the total day of relaxation that I had yesterday (I didn’t get out of my pajamas until 4:00pm!  What??? Sweet!) and what all I wanted to accomplish today.  As I began to pray and chat with God, the thought of gifts came to mind.  Today is a gift He was giving to me.
Have you received a gift that you opened with great anticipation only tear into the package, open it, and think, “This is it?” Or maybe you weren’t expecting a gift at all, and you were treated to a wonderful surprise.  Some gifts are precious and you can’t wait to use/share/display them, and some gifts not so great for your own taste.  But no matter how “I” perceive the present it is always followed by a great “Thank you!” (Don’t steal the joy of the giver.)
My daughter is a very picky gift receiver.  I actually begin shopping for her Christmas and/or birthday gifts months in advance WITH her.  She knows exactly what she will receive, I know she loves it, and yet many times when she opens it on the actual “gift giving” day she has forgotten about that specific gift and is delighted to have it.
No matter how great or “not-so-great” your gift may be, you are given one each day.  Yes!  Christmas and/or Birthday continue daily.  Each day is a gift from God.
Have you ever heard the saying, “Each day is a gift from God, that’s why it is called the “present”.”? Well, as this new year begins I pray that you and I will receive each day with a big “Thank You”.  The giver is GodThank Him for each day for the present.
On December 10th I wrote about perspective. I’m sure you’ll have mornings when you wake up and you aren’t looking forward to living in the present. So I hope you’ll change your perspective on living that day, and do what Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Blessings and God’s abundant love to y’all.
James 1:17 , “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
