Hang on!“Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.” Titus 2:2
Whew! The Lord did it again. He pitched a verse to me for me (and my husband, and all of us really, parent or not) to hit and run home.
I just had a thought… Parenting is often like baseball:

  • You’re pitched situations in life.
  • You run to first with a “human” reaction”.
  • Touching second base you try to take a DEEP breath.
  • Standing on third you have some thoughts.
  • Then you realize that you need to run HOME to Jesus.

This scenario isn’t just for parenting, but for just plain ole life situations as well. What we need to learn to do is:

Hit that ball and round those bases running straight for HOME (Jesus) with the first swing. If we do this, it will save us (and those who just may get hit with our ball) a lot of frustration.

Remember recently went I wrote God Gets It? Well, another “pitch” was thrown our way (Tim and me). Voices where calm, but strong disapproval was definitely felt by the children involved. A few minutes after a conversation took place, a respectful/self-controlled, and wise second talk went out to the “pitchers”. Through both exchanges, I believe that our children could tell that love and patience was displayed that can ONLY come from God. (At least I observed this. It may take them a while to realize the patience that did take place.) Even though “our” patience may be running thin, God supplies us with more. Thank You, Jesus!!!
Titus 2:2 was lived out in our home. I thank God for giving me this verse this morning as a reminder/confirmation of how to react to situations. I’m quite confident that this won’t be the last time that we need to live out this verse. But with God’s coaching, I’m sure we can make it HOME.
Batter up.
I pray many blessings and much joy for you! Have a wonderful day. – Stephanie
