My man navigating us around the waters. (Oooo, that sounds like a good theme for another journal entry.)

“I’m bored.”
Those are words I’ve heard and said many times in my life. In today’s society it seems that there has to be activity taking place at all times to keep people entertained. However, we need to realize that those allotments of “boredom” should actually be treasured times of contentment and beneficial blessings.
Stop, drop, and reel…
Recently Tim and I had grand plans to take the boat twenty-five miles offshore to catch fish. The closer we got to our boat slip, the more we noticed that the weather was fluctuating from the original forecast. Our Florida weather once again was not what was predicted. The winds had kicked up a notch which made the seas a bit choppy. Instead of turning the truck around to head home, we decided to continue to venture out, just remain closer inshore. Hey, a so-so-day on the water is better than not being on the water at all.
Tim took this opportunity to test some of the numbers on his depth finder. “Captain Tim” would navigate the boat to the targeted destination, he would observe the sonar readings from the bottom of the gulf, and then say “Drop it”.
It was my responsibility to drop the fishing line 20-60 feet to the bottom to see if any fish would take my bait. Occasionally I would reel up a grouper or other species, and then other times, I just dropped and reeled in my bait.
When we weren’t successful in catching any fish and/or the bottom appeared to have no movement or structure good for fish to inhabit, Tim would delete those numbers from his depth finder.
This routine went on for hours!
There were times when I was sitting there thinking, “I am bored”. Stop. Drop. Reel. Stop. Drop. Reel. Despite my boredom, God quickly took the opportunity to remind me to relish the time with my man and The Man. Prayers were spoken. Blessings were counted. Rest in Him was captured. Treasured memories were made.
Those bumpy waters calmed my soul. My boredom was turned into a beneficial and beautiful experience.
I was reminded that “being bored” is a good thing. It allowed me to rest in Him. The words, “Be still, and know that I am God!” from Psalms 46:10 was impressed in my mind.
I want to encourage you that the next time your feel “bored”, embrace it. Embrace that time to enjoy the little things in life, revel in whatever God revels to you while you converse with Him, and count your blessings.
Be still, and know that HE IS GOD!
I pray that you will enjoy soaking up The Son every moment of each day. –Stephanie
