Recently I’ve been reminded to stop and appreciate the things in life we just may take for granted and to be grateful for what we have.

  • While visiting with a friend, who was hospitalized for over a month with COVID, we talked about how precious it is to simply breathe and walk.  He relied on an oxygen tube to give him breath, and now he is breathing more on his own.  He still has a ways to go, but he is determined and grateful.  My friend lost a lot of weight, especially muscle mass.  The ability to walk and work on regaining strength via physical therapy is not taken lightly by my friend and his family.
  • Before I walked out the door for a walk, I sat down to put on my shoes.  The frame that holds a photo of my late mother-in-love caught my eye because it was crooked.  I smiled, straightened it up, and thought “Jany would appreciate it being straight.”  The consideration that she would want everyone to get straight with God occurred as well.  Life is short.  We are but a breath.  Live it well.
  • While walking down the country road, two blue birds rested on the electrical line.  Before I could grab my phone for a photo, they flew away. Every time I see a bluebird I think of my sweet momma. I immediately tried calling her, but there was no answer.  The sound of her voice on her voicemail was chipper.  She later replied to a text, so I knew she was fine.  This little scene again reminded me to tell those you love that you love them.  When you think of someone, pray for them right away or and maybe reach out for a chat.
  • This morning’s walk was no different in making me enjoy nature and think of others.  Our daughter has a sentimental tattoo on her arm that consists of a bouquet of the favorite flowers of her two grandmothers, myself, and her, and symbolic herbs nestled between each flower.  Holly’s flower is a dandelion. There was a small area of dandelions along the roadside.  I picked one, videoed me blowing it into the wind, and sent it to Holly.  The text included the words, “thinking of you”.  She appreciated it.  Small gestures like that, to let someone know that they are in your thoughts and prayers, mean more than you will ever know.  Blowing the seeds of the dandelion reminded me again that “life is but a breath”, and that we are to praise the Lord.
