In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NASB

God must have really wanted me to get to church.

Have you ever been in a group when someone asks for prayer requests, and hands go up, serious requests are spoken, and the request that you have on your heart now seems so insignificant? Well, let me tell you that there is no request so great or so small that God doesn’t want to hear.

Not only does He, and others, want to hear your requests, but your thankfulness. Yes! A grateful heart is a loving heart.

I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart. I will tell about the wonderful things you have done. Psalm 9:1 ERV

Well, that was how I sort of felt while in Sunday School recently. I didn’t have a request, just wanted to share some good silly news, yet seriousness was being spoken by others.

As the seriousness was being spoken, I felt more compelled to share. Their seriousness was one of thankfulness as well, yet for surviving a heart attack and overcoming fear of death, and another of encouragement of seeing the new movie, “A Case for Heaven” with a little personal experience of gratitude  from their own physical ailment sprinkled in.

So what was my silly news…God gave me God Gaps in the road and green lights!

You see, I was running a little behind that Sunday morning. When attempting to leave my road, and turning onto the state road that leads into town, traffic can be hideous. Yet, that day there was not a car in sight! Then, when driving through town, I pass through eight street lights. Not one of them was red! Okay, there were two that turned yellow right before I drove under, but…y’all, it was a green light day!

While the requests and praises were being spoken in class, I piped in and said “…I am grateful for ALL GREEN LIGHTS…”

Everything good comes from God. Every perfect gift is from Him. These good gifts come down from the Father who made all the lights in the sky. But God never changes like the shadows from those lights. He is always the same. James 1:17 ERV

I had to giggle when I read “all the lights in the sky”, and think to myself…even the stoplights.

While we are surrounded by seriousness in our world, we need to remember to thank God for the little things in life. Some “things” may not even be so little, but conveniences we may take for granted.

For example, this morning I am grateful for:

  • Hot water for the shower
  • God waking me up next to my man
  • Air conditioning
  • The birds chirping outside
  • A morning text from our daughter
  • A cool crispness in the air
  • My shoes match the color of my shirt.
  • And while reading this, I’m glad God wanted me to get to church that day…it was a blessing!

I could go on and on.  How about you? What are you grateful for today…big or small?

May you have an all green light kinda day!

Blessings to you and yours,

Stephanie
