I am a girl who loves to eat.  One of my favorite memories of church was when we had “dinner on the grounds”. Yummmmmmy! Granny’s egg custard, Aunt Mae’s pound cake, momma’s chicken-n-dumplings, freshly picked peas and corn, fried chicken, sweet tea, and more desserts than you can shake a stick at. There was always plenty of food to be eaten.  After lunch, we would often play outside before going into the church for some good ole southern gospel singing.  We were fed not only physically, but spiritually.

Here's Cole playing on the same old oak tree roots I used to play on as a kid outside the church I grew up in, Welcome Baptist Church.

I grew up not only southern, but a Baptist.  We Baptist are known for enjoying our food and fellowship. When someone gives birth, you take food.  When someone dies, you take food. When someone is recovering from a sickness, what else do you do but take them some food.
When I read Psalm 81:10, today it brought these memories of dinner on the ground to mind.  It says, “I am the Lord your God,…Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”
Imagine all the good things in life that God wants to fill us with. Glory! Oh-oh, and whatever you just imagined…God has so much more planned for you when we all get to heaven.
(That last sentence totally reminded me of one of those “good ole southern gospel” songs:  When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing it will be.  When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout with victory. (Smile) That took me back a few years.)
Well, God told the Israelites to open with their mouth, but they wouldn’t listen. They were stubborn. (verses 11-12) They missed out on some bountiful blessings.
I don’t want to be that way.  Yes, I can be stubborn and have been known to do things my way instead of God’s way.  But when I think back on those times when I was persistent in doing things my way, it didn’t always go so well.  I’m sure; no I’m positive, that I missed out on some bountiful blessings.
Learn from the Israelites, learn from me, shoot…learn from your own insistent mistakes, and allow God to feed you. Let Him take care of you, guide your paths in life, help make decisions, give you blessings beyond.
When you open His word, let Him speak to you then through you.  When you open your mind to what He has planned for you, you will be enlightened to His grandeur.  When you open your heart to accepting Him as your Lord and Savior, you will discover joy and peace.
This southern girl wants God to fill her with all His goodness.  Open wide….let Him fill you too.
