I had to post this picture. You know there was lots of "spitting" going on here.

Spit.  When you hear that word you may have various feelings or thoughts that conjure up in your stomach and/or mind.
I grew up with older three brothers.  They were not only just plain ole boys, but they were into sports and were “country boys” (some may say downright “Rednecks”).  Spitting was just something that just came as naturally as breathing to them.
Okay, hold your stomach, but I can vividly remember when one of my brothers and his friend used to spit into the air and try to catch each other’s spit. Disgusting!!! (I don’t believe he reads my journaling, but I’ll definitely have to bring this one up to him.)
We often think of spitting as something gross, but let’s look at some times when it is truly a healing agent.
Mommas, don’t tell me you haven’t ever picked up your baby’s pacifier and popped it into your mouth to disinfect it before giving it back to them.  Or what about all of us who see any type of particles on our kid’s face, or maybe even a little booboo, and we instinctively lick our thumb and wipe them clean?  Admit it, you’ve done it.
You even see animals licking their wounds.  I’ve heard that those animals that can lick their wounds right away heal much quicker than one that was not able to lick.
During this school year, one of my student’s mother (and a friend of mine) came to speak to our class during Great American Teach-in.  This is a day set aside for professionals to share their occupation with students to encourage them to stay in school.  Well my friend, Kim, shared with us that we make (I think) about 6-8 cups of saliva each day!
You know, God had a purpose and plan for every little inch of our body when He designed us…even the spit.
In Mark 8:22-25 it says, “22 Jesus and his followers came to Bethsaida. Some people brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch the man. 23 So Jesus held the blind man’s hand and led him out of the village. Then he spit on the man’s eyes. He laid his hands on him and asked, “Can you see now?”
24 The man looked up and said, “Yes, I see people. They look like trees walking around.”
25 Again Jesus laid his hands on the man’s eyes, and the man opened them wide. His eyes were healed, and he was able to see everything clearly.
This is not the only time that Jesus spit to heal.  I just read it also in Mark 7:33, “Jesus led him away from the crowd so they could be alone. He put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then, spitting on his own fingers, he touched the man’s tongue.”
Now, I’m not saying to go around spitting on all your booboos and they’ll be miraculously healed.  I’ll leave all the miracles to God.  But, don’t just knock a human instinct as downright gross all the time.  Think about how spitting can be a good thing.  Just do it respectfully. Still Dreaming
